How to Brighten up your Beauty Routine During Quarantine

The uncertainty of tomorrow throws us off, everything can change in a minute and nothing is constant. That lack of normalcy can be difficult for anyone; but by creating a beauty routine you can stick to, the consistency starts to become more familiar again. Here are 10 tips to brighten up your beauty routine during this quarantine.

Beauty Tip #1: Take a Breather! For the first time probably ever, you have no responsibilities outside of your home. You don’t have to travel to work or school, no GNO or date nights. Use this time to let your skin breathe! Try to limit wearing makeup to twice a week and when we finally come out of this quarantine your skin will be thanking you for it.

Beauty Tip #2: Let Your Products Work. Most beauty products can take up to 4 weeks to see results, so now is the best time to give your products the proper time to do what they need to do. Place an online order at Target (with same day delivery!) or an order with Ulta for some new beauty products, or dig up some old ones you gave up on too soon.

Beauty Tip #3: Try a DIY Face Mask. You don’t need to spend $60 on a fancy face mask when you can keep it natural with things you can find in the pantry. Click here for some face mask recipes using superfoods from Elle Magazine.

Beauty Tip #4: Glow with Self Tanner. Studies show that women feel more confident inside and out when they have a tan. This isn’t the season quite yet for tanning by the pool, but that doesn’t mean self tanner is out of the question. Start small with a lotion and then build up to a mousse or spray with more experience. Stay on the look out for a self tanning blog post full of my favorite products with reviews and picture results

Beauty Tip #5: Clean Out Your Makeup Drawer. Did you know your makeup actually has an expiration date? Yup. How long have you been using the same mascara or eyeliner? Well if it’s been more than 3 months, then toss it. And if you’re not going to wear it anymore, toss that too. Declutter and make room for some new products!

Beauty Tip #6: Self Care. Sometimes we need to take a step back to go a step forward. If you’re overwhelmed with school or work, take that 20-30 minute break and hop into a bubble bath to decompress and return with a clear mind. Add some essential oils such as lavender or peppermint for a relaxing and soothing effect, or citrus notes for a pick me up.

Beauty Tip #7: Wash Your Damn Brushes! Trust me, I’m guilty of it too but we have to do it so CLEAN YOUR DAMN BRUSHES!! All that dirt and bacteria sits on your brushes that you use over and over again. Some great inexpensive options are baby soap or brush cleaner soap from the beauty store (although you can’t use them for a few hours until they’re dry). A quick and easy option I love is the Brush Bath Cleanser by IT Cosmetics, and it dries for immediate use in between eye shadow colors.

Beauty Tip #8: Get Fancy with Facials. Jade rollers apply gentle pressure to encourage lymphatic drainage and relax your facial muscles, while also lifting the skin. Any quality facial that includes a lymphatic massage will be pricey, but you can find a jade roller for under $10 in any drug store. Jade rollers also help any skin care product penetrate into your skin for maximum efficiency. Try putting your jade roller in the fridge or freezer for a cooling effect that enhances skin tightening and creates a spa-like experience.

Beauty Tip #9: Add Some Collagen. Healthier hair, skin and nails at minimal cost? Sign me up! Collagen reaps some of the best beauty benefits by reducing wrinkles, cellulite and stretch marks, promotes stronger hair and nails and helps clear acne and create a dewy complexion. You can incorporate collagen into you routine daily by adding it to your morning coffee or workout protein shake. Here are some of my favorites:

Beauty Tip #10: Sleep it Off. You have all the time in the world now to create a steady sleep schedule. There is no need to get up 2 hours before work starts to get ready or give enough travel time, so sleep in when you can. The National Sleep Foundation says young adults (ages 18-25) should be getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. Not only does the appropriate amount of sleep help boost your productivity levels but it also promotes a clear and glowy complexion, less puffy eyes and fewer pre-mature wrinkles.

Who says quarantine has to be all boring. I hope you found these tips useful and have fun incorporating them into your daily routine. Feel free to share any additional tips in the comments below or message me on IG for any other beauty tips or questions, and let me know what you think!
